Sacramento, CA : I-5 crash injures five on Saturday, 20th August, 2016
An overturned big rig on Interstate 5 near Vista Del Lago Road caused a small pileup that left five people injured and forced California Highway Patrol officers to close all lanes for some time Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Cheryl Sims with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The big rig truck flipped over, damaged several vehicles and blocked all four lanes of the highway.
Three people had to be airlifted to a local hospital and two others were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital via ground ambulance, Sims said.
One of those injured had to be extricated from a damaged vehicle.
The northbound side of I-5 near the crash was closed for a brief time before one lane opened up shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.
