Ithaca, NY : Bicyclist severely injured in crash on Cayuga Street on Tuesday morning, August 9, 2016
A bicyclist was severely hurt Tuesday morning on Cayuga Street in Ithaca.
Members of the Ithaca Fire Department, Ithaca Police Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to the incident around 10 a.m. Tuesday on Cayuga Street. The accident occurred on the busy roadway between Yates and Tompkins streets, according to a news release from the IFD.
When emergency officials arrived, they found a man on the pavement suffering head injuries. Bystanders were already rendering first aid, the IFD said. Firefighters and Bangs Ambulance personnel stabilized the man's injuries while other members of the IFD established a landing zone for a medical helicopter at Ithaca High School.
The man was flown by helicopter to a regional trauma center.
The condition of the man is not known at this time, the IFD says, and Ithaca police are investigating the incident.
The IFD reminds bicyclists "to always wear their helmets and be safe while riding around town."
