YORK, SC : Man killed in York County on Wednesday, August 9, 2017
Charges are pending against a 22-year-old man suspected in the first homicide case in York County this year.
The incident happened Wednesday evening on Justin Drive off of Highway 161, near Clover.
The York County Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to a mobile home for a disorderly conduct call.
“I observed an unresponsive white male laying on the floor just inside the doorway,” the deputy wrote in the official case report.
It was later determined by Piedmont EMS that the victim, 44-year-old Jerry Proctor, was dead.
The officer arrested 22-year-old Robert Cleveland Cribb Jr, who was found inside the home. Public Information Officer Trent Faris says charges are pending against Cribb. He was being questioned by investigators Thursday.
Officers did not say what may have led up to Proctor’s death or if there were any visible injuries. An autopsy was being conducted Thursday.
Neighbors who live on the dead end street say it’s a quiet neighborhood and everyone keeps to themselves.
“Down in this neighborhood we didn’t think something like that was going to happen because they hardly ever get out, them people,” neighbor Charles Costner said about the people who live at the home where Proctor was killed.
A woman who answered the door at the home declined to comment.
According to Faris, this incident marks the first homicide in York County this year.
“Doesn’t happen that often in York County, so let’s hope it doesn’t happen anymore,” Faris said.
