LAFAYETTE, CA : Solo car crash in Lafayette kills husband, seriously injures wife on Monday, January, 29th 2018

A solo car crash Sunday morning killed a man and seriously injured his wife, authorities said Monday.

Police are still trying to determine why a 2009 Honda CRV drifted off Olympic Boulevard around 10:45 a.m., Lt. Eric Christensen of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said. The SUV then hit a tree.

Authorities had not yet identified him Monday morning.

The SUV crashed while going west on Olympic Boulevard, Christensen said. Just after passing Windtree Court, it drifted to the right, went over the raised curb and smashed into the tree.

“We don’t know if he suffered some kind of medical emergency or if he fell asleep,” Christensen said. “But something caused the car to drift without warning.”

The man and his wife both went by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He was pronounced dead there, Christensen said.
