Colorado Springs, CO : Semi truck jackknifed across the highway and caused traffic backups for nearly five miles and northbound lanes of Interstate 25 is closed on Wednesday September 10th 2014
Colorado Springs, Colorado
All northbound lanes of Interstate 25 north of Nevada Avenue reopened by 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, more than two hours after a semi truck jackknifed across the highway and caused traffic backups for nearly five miles, Colorado Springs police said.
Only the right thru lane on northbound Interstate 25 north of Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs was open to motorists.
There was no information on injuries or what caused the semi to crash, said police Lt. Catherine Buckley.
The morning commute for people in northeast Colorado Springs got tougher Wednesday when a school bus crash and a separate wreck with a fuel spill blocked main traffic ways.
A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured after the SUV he was a passenger in collided with a Falcon 49 School District school bus, said police spokeswoman Lt. Catherine Buckley. The boy was taken to a local hospital , Buckley said.
The driver of the light green Subaru SUV was cited for allegedly making an illegal left turn in front of the school bus and causing the crash , Buckley said.
There were no students on the bus at the time of the wreck that blocked all directions of the intersection of Peterson Road and Stetson Hills Boulevard about 7:30 a.m., said D49 spokesman Matt Meister.
A back-up school bus was dispatched following the crash and student bus riders would experience minimal delays, Meister said.
A second wreck about 8 a.m. happened west of North Powers Boulevard and stalled traffic when fuel from a vehicle spilled onto the road at Research Parkway and Lexington Drive, said Colorado Springs fire spokesman Capt. Steve Oswald.
Fire crews and a Hazmat team were at the spill with absorbent material to clean up the spill and reopen the intersection, which remained closed to traffic.
