Ionia, MI : Three people injured in tractor-trailer and SUV crash on Friday morning, October 21, 2016

Three people were hospitalized Friday morning following a tractor-trailer and compact SUV crash at the intersection of Sheridan and Carson City roads.

The 51-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer turned in front of the SUV as he attempted to go from southbound Sheridan Road onto eastbound Carson City Road at approximately 9:45 a.m., according to the Michigan State Police.

The driver of the SUV was traveling north on Sheridan Road and was unable to stop.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured. The SUV driver and a passenger in the rear seat were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. Another unnamed passenger in the rear seat was not injured. However, a passenger in the front seat was hospitalized with serious injuries and was air-lifted to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

The Carson City Police Department, Sheridan Village Fire Department and Montcalm County EMS also responded to the crash. The investigation is ongoing and alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, according the the MSP.
