Springfield, IL : Menard County woman hurt in two-car crash on Illinois 29 on Saturday, December, 23rd 2017

A Menard County woman was injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on Illinois 29 between Greenview and Athens.

Illinois State Police said a vehicle driven by Alexandria A. Abbott, 22, of Abingdon, was headed west on Sweetwater Road at 8:30 p.m. when she failed to yield while turning right onto Illinois 29 and was rear-ended by a northbound vehicle driven by Angela E. Haynes, 45, of Mason City.

Abbott’s car went into the right ditch. Haynes’ vehicle went in the left ditch and was partially submerged in a small pond.

A passenger in Abbott’s car, Paige R. Johnston, 20, of Greenview, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both drivers and an 11-year-old girl who was a passenger in Haynes’ vehicle were not injured, police said.

Abbott was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.
