Elderly man killed in hit-and-run crash in San Ysidro

An 82-year-old man was fatally struck by a car in a San Ysidro roadway Sunday and police were seeking the hit-and-run driver.

The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was crossing the 200 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard west of Interstate 805 about 6:15 a.m. when he was struck by the westbound sedan, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.
The victim died at the scene, and the driver fled, Lasher said.Police described the suspect vehicle as a dark and oxidized 1990s four-door sedan.

The California Highway Patrol added that the car's paint was faded. It was missing its driver's side window, sustained major front end damage and was occupied by two men.
A SigAlert was in effect for the eastbound lanes, and CHP officials reported traffic was backing up in the area.
