RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN : 2 killed in 2 crashes along I-24 in Rutherford County on Thursday, 25th July 2019

A portion of Interstate 24 in Rutherford County was closed early Thursday morning as authorities investigated two fatal crashes.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, a woman was killed in the the westbound lanes in a crash with a commercial vehicle near mile marker 71 around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim as 64-year-old Martha Caldwell, of Murfreesboro.

Caldwell reportedly stepped out into the roadway into the path of the commercial vehicle that was unable to stop in time, according to the THP.

During the investigation, I-24 was closed westbound between the I-840 and Almaville Road exits.

The THP reported another person was killed in a separate crash in the eastbound lanes near the Sam Ridley Parkway exit just before midnight. Someone else in the vehicle was airlifted to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
