Shelbyville,KY : Teen dies in car crash in Shelby on June, Wednesday 21th 2017

A single vehicle acident in Shelby County has left one teen dead and two others injured, police say.

According to Kentucky State Police, a 16-year-old boy was killed when the car in he was a passenger ran off the road way and he was ejected from the vehicle.

The accident happened at midnight Tuesday near the 8100 block of Mount Eden Road. The teen was riding in the back seat of a car containing two other teens, a 17-year-old girl from Shelbyville, who was driving and a 16-year-old boy from Waddy, who was riding in the front passenger seat.

Their names have not been released because they are juveniles.

Accident reconstructionists say the vehicle was traveling north on Mount Eden Road when it left the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned, ejected the teen in the backseat. He was only occupant of the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

He was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he was pronounced diseased. The driver was taken to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville and treated for minor injuries. The other teen was not taken to the hospital.

Police say they do not know why the driver ran off the road. The accident is still under investigation.
