District of Columbia police have charged the driver of an SUV that flipped over in downtown Washington, killing one pedestrian and injuring another, with involuntary manslaughter.
The Metropolitan Police Department filed charges Tuesday against 33-year-old James Chandler of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Police say Chandler was speeding Monday evening when he lost control of his SUV. Police say Chandler hit a wall outside the U.S. Government Accountability Office headquarters, flipped onto a sidewalk and struck a pedestrian. Another pedestrian was injured by debris from the collision.
Twenty-seven-year-old Philip Snodgrass of Baldwin, Maryland, died at a hospital. Chandler and the second pedestrian, a man, were also treated at hospitals following the wreck.
Officers arrested Chandler when he was released from a hospital.
The second pedestrian was treated and released.
