A Georgia man was killed in a wreck that occurred Sunday morning on I-85 South near exit 10 toward Kings Mountain.
According to Highway Patrol troopers, a Toyota Forerunner hit the right rear quarter of a Honda Odyssey van at approximately 7:42 a.m. Sunday. The Toyota then went into a ditch on the side of the highway, overturned several times and ended up in the rightmost lanes of I-85 South.
The driver of the Toyota, Thanh Nguyn, 38, of Duluth, Ga., was ejected from the car and died of his injuries. A passenger in the Toyota was transported to CaroMont Health in Gastonia before being airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Troopers say there was minor damage to the Honda van that was hit, and the occupants in the van were not injured.
The wreck caused a closure of the two rightmost lanes near exit 10 for approximately 90 minutes. By 10:30 a.m. the wreck was cleared up.
