Lowell, IN :No serious injuries after rollover crash involving family of 6 on Sunday, July 5th 2015
Six family members escaped serious injuries Sunday after a tire on their pickup truck blew and the vehicle went off Interstate 65 and rolled several times, police said.Gustavo Rodriguez, 34, of Cicero, was headed home from Indiana Beach about 12:20 p.m. when a tire blew on his 2002 GMC on northbound I-65, about 3 miles north of the Lowell exit, according to Indiana State Police.The blown tire caused the truck to go off the interstate and begin to roll, police said. An 8-foot trailer the truck was pulling became unhitched, went down a grassy embankment and came to rest in trees.The pickup continued to roll down the hill and came to rest on the passenger side against trees, police said.Rodriguez was taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point. His 4-year-old daughter, Natalia Rodriguez, who was in the back seat behind him, also was taken to St. Anthony with non-life-threatening injuries.Sons Juan Hernandez, 15, and Gustavo Rodriguez, 10, both of Cicero, were taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus.The driver's wife, Rayna Conejo, 29, of Cicero, and cousin Rafael Conejo, of Chicago, were taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus.Master Trooper Aaron Trammel conducted a preliminary investigation of the crash, police said.“Everyone was wearing their seat belts, which helped prevent serious injuries," Trammel said.
