Newkirk, OK : 18-year-old from Ponca City died after a crash on US-77 north of Newkirk on Sunday, Sep 20, 2015

An 18-year-old from Ponca City was pronounced dead Monday evening after a crash three miles north of Newkirk on Sept. 20.

Authorities said the driver of a 2004 Ford was heading northbound on US-77 when he drifted into the southbound lane, striking another vehicle.

The driver of the Ford, Blake Shepard, was pinned in his vehicle until he was freed by the Newkirk Fire Department.

He was admitted to a hospital in stable condition with head, trunk, arm and leg injuries. He was pronounced dead Monday evening at a Wichita, Kansas, hospital.

Those in the other vehicle involved in the crash were not hurt.
