Wimington , NC : Bicyclist injured after hit by car while riding her bike Along Wrightsville Avenue on Thursday night April 2nd 2015

A woman riding a bicycle was hit by an SUV in Wilmington Thursday night.

Sgt. Kittrell with the Wilmington Police Department said a woman in her 40s was riding her bike in the 6100 block of Wrightsville Avenue, heading toward S. College Road. An SUV was heading in the same direction.

Kittrell said the bike rider was along the side of the road, and in traffic the SUV driver could not avoid hitting her from behind. The bicyclist suffered serious injuries, including a head injury and possible broken bones.

The SUV driver was not hurt and does not face any charges
