Litchfield,IL : 75-year-old Gillespie woman injured in crash near Interstate 55 on September, Wednesday 13th 2017
A 75-year-old Gillespie woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Interstate 55 in Litchfield Wednesday.
Charlene Taylor, 75, of Gillespie was transported to St. Francis Hospital by Litchfield Fire Department personnel with what Illinois State Police District 18 Trooper Heath Bryan described as “non-incapacitating injuries” after she was unable to avoid a crash with a 2017 Toyota passenger car that pulled out in front of her on Illinois Route 16. Sophie Nash, a 31-year-old Reading, United Kingdom, native was a passenger in the Toyota and was also injured in the crash, also sustaining non-incapacitating injuries, per Bryan.
The crash happened at 2:39 p.m. Wednesday when the Toyota, driven by 26-year-old Reading, United Kingdom man Richard Collis, exited off Interstate 55 southbound at the Litchfield exit. The vehicle turned westbound on Illinois 16 in front of Taylor’s 2010 Ford passenger car, and Taylor’s vehicle hit the Toyota on the driver side.
Illinois 16 was reduced to one lane of traffic for around an hour Wednesday afternoon as crews cleaned the road.
The crash is still under investigation by Illinois State Police District 18.
