Manchester, MI; One man was unconscious and transported to hospital after crashed utility pole at Austin road on Tuesday , December 23rd 2014
Law enforcement is currently investigating a crash on Austin Road that sent one man to the hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
A male in his late 40s was driving a 2000 Grand Prix eastbound on the S curve when he went off the road at a high rate of speed and crashed into a utility pole. No one else was in the vehicle at the time.
Manchester Fire Chief Mike Riesterer said the car went sideways into the pole, which caused it to enter the driver’s side of the car by about a foot. The impact also caused the pole to break in two different places.
The man was unconscious when transported via Huron Valley Ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital. Rescuers attempted to have a helicopter come to the scene but the flight had to be cancelled due to foggy conditions, which made it unsafe, he said.
Crews used the Jaws of Life to extract the victim from the vehicle.
Riesterer said the scene was dangerous because the wires from the pole ended up dangling over the scene of the accident
