CENTRAL HEIGHTS, AL : Lauderdale man killed in wreck on Monday, 24th October 2016
Authorities said a Lauderdale County man was killed in a one-car wreck west of Florence Monday morning.
Regional King, a public information officer for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said Jackie Dale Robinson, 69, 3050 Lauderdale 137, Florence, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lauderdale County Deputy Coroner Mike Bishop.
Reports indicate the accident happened on Alabama 20, just east of the Lauderdale 16 intersection.
According to emergency officials, the accident was reported at 8:31 a.m., but it may have happened earlier in the morning.
King said troopers believe the wreck happened around 5:30 a.m. Monday.
“It was off the road, back in a wooded area. It was hard to see the truck,” said Lt. Tyler Faires of the Central Volunteer Fire Department, who was the incident commander at the accident.
Emergency personnel at the scene said the car ran off the road and hit several trees before ending up in a wooded area.
King said Robinson was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra that flipped several times after he ran off the roadway.
Emergency personnel said it appeared the truck, which was going east towards Florence, crossed the roadway and went off the north side of the road, hit two or three trees, and then started flipping. The vehicle came to a stop 75 to 100 feet off the road.
Authorities said the truck turned completely around and the back end went up a tree about 20 feet before stopping, heading west.
Faires said the driver’s side door was wedged against a door, and emergency personnel had to pry open the passenger side door to get inside the vehicle.
The fatality accident is the 30th this year in the Northwest Alabama region and southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence.
It was the second traffic fatality in the last week in the Shoals.
The wreck is under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Quad-Cities Troopers Post.
