LAKE VIEW, IA : Woman killed in Sac County crash on Saturday, December 24th 2016

A woman was killed Saturday morning in a four-vehicle accident about a mile west of Lake View on Iowa Highway 175 in Sac County.

According to the Sac County Sheriff’s Department, the 8:24 a.m. crash happened when a semi traveling west on 175 passed a passenger car and collided head on with a pickup truck traveling east.

A passenger car following the pickup then rear-ended the pickup.

The woman killed was a passenger in the pickup. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Five others were injured in the accident, including the driver and a passenger in the semi, the two occupants of the car that struck the pickup, and the driver of the pickup.

The identities of the people involved and the victim were not immediately released.

All five were taken to Loring Hospital in Sac City. Two of the injured were transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City with critical injuries.

The car the semi was passing was damaged in the accident, however the driver was not injured.

The sheriff’s department reported that visibility in the area was near zero due to fog at the time of the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sac County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Units from Lake View police and fire departments, Wall Lake Fire and ambulances from Lake View and Sac City also responded to the accident.
