Aspen,CO : I-70 closed by fatal accident on August, Wednesday 16th 2017

An accident Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. on westbound I-70 was fatal, according to the Garfield County Sheriff's Office. The victim's name was not immediately available.

The crash occurred near mile marker 93. Initial reports indicated that a state trooper made a traffic stop and then a second car traveling west on I-70 struck the stopped car.

The driver of the first vehicle did not survive. The state trooper and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to an area hospital for medical attention, according to the sheriff's office statement.

The accident closed westbound I-70 at the Silt exit and traffic was diverted onto Highway 6 on Wednesday evening. Vehicles were allowed to re-enter the highway at the Rifle exit.
