NEW LENOX, IL : Chicago-area freeway closed after truck crash on Interstate 80 on Thursday, 26th December, 2019
An Illinois freeway was shut down after a semitrailer rolled over and leaked acid onto the roadway, authorities said.
The 33-year-old driver was heading west on Interstate 80 near New Lenox about 8 a.m. Thursday when the truck began to sway as he tried to change lanes, according to state police.The vehicle struck the guardrail and rolled over in a ditch.
An estimated 100 gallons (378 liters) of phosphoric acid leaked from the truck. Hazardous materials teams were called in to contain the chemical.
No injuries were reported. The driver was cited for improper lane usage, police said.
