Lebanon, OR : Florence Townsend, 75, dies when she veered west and struck the telephone pole and tree on S. Williams Street on Tuesday evening, March 17, 2015

A 75-year-old Lebanon woman was killed in a one-car crash at the intersection of East Oak and South Williams streets at 7:45 p.m. on March 17.

Florence Townsend was the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt that was traveling north on South Williams. Near the intersection of East Oak, the vehicle veered to the west side of South Williams where it struck a telephone pole and a tree, according to a press release from the Lebanon Police Department.

Paramedics from the Lebanon Fire District arrived on scene and began treating Townsend, according to the relase She was taken to the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital where she died a short time after arrival.

The Linn County Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team responded to assist in the reconstruction of the crash.

An investigation by Lebanon officers revealed that Townsend was having medical problems and was driving herself to the hospital, according to the release. It is believed that the crash was a result of the medical condition. Townsend was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

There is no indication that speed or alcohol had any involvement in the crash, and the investigation is continuing.
