Tangent, OR : Two Sweet Home men died in a head-on collision on Highway 34 near Tangent on Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2015
Two men died and another was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash between a pickup and a dump truck on Highway 34 outside Tangent.
Troopers were called out to the crash just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Donald Roberts, 24, of Sweet Home, was driving a Ford F-150 pickup east on Highway 34 when he crossed the center line and struck a westbound dump truck hauling gravel, Oregon State Police Sergeant Nathan House said.
Emergency crews took Roberts from the scene in a helicopter ambulance; he died after arriving at the hospital.
Roberts’ passenger, Mason Tagen, 25, of Sweet Home, died in the crash.
The truck’s driver, Scott Lillis, 51, of Philomath, was seriously injured in the crash. He’s recovering at an Albany hospital, officials said.
Crash investigators said both drivers were wearing seat belts in the crash, however it appears Tagen was not buckled in.
Emergency responders closed the highway in both directions of milepost 7 for several hours while crews cleared the crash scene and investigated the collision.
