Morristown, NY :Bartlett High grad, a medal-winning soldier, killed in crash on Tuesday, June 30th 2015
A Fort Drum soldier who graduated from Bartlett Junior Senior High School in Webster in 2010 died recently in a one-vehicle accident in Morristown, New York.
Sgt. Ronald J. Dupuis III, 23, of North Grosvenordale, Connecticut, was driving his pickup truck on state Route 37 early on June 21 when he crashed on a curve in the St. Lawrence County town, according to New York troopers.Police said the pickup left the road, went down an embankment and hit a raised driveway, causing it to go airborne for more than 160 feet and overturn for another 90 feet before coming to a rest.Sgt. Dupuis was pronounced dead at the scene.Troopers said he was stationed at Fort Drum, home of the Army's 10th Mountain Division.The cause of the crash remains under investigation.According to his obituary, Sgt. Dupuis was born in Riverside, California, and lived in Dudley and Webster prior to being stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, from 2011 to 2014, and Fort Drum, New York, the past year.
He is survived by his wife, Torri (Loce) Dupuis; his mother and stepfather, Wendy (Sampson) LeBlanc and Richard LeBlanc of North Grosvenordale, his father and stepmother, Ronald J. Dupuis Jr. and Sue Dupuis of Potsdam, New York.Sgt. Dupuis was awarded the Army Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Overseas Ribbon, and the Driver Mechanic Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Army Commendation Medal, which was presented to his wife and mother by Col. David W. Gilliam.In addition to Bartlett, he attended St. Joseph's School in Webster.A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 18 East Main St., Webster. Burial with military honors will follow,at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Webster.
