A 72-year-old man died in a crash involving one other vehicle at New York St. and Chester Ave. on the city's east side Wednesday afternoon. Five others were treated for minor injuries.
Witnesses told Indianapolis Metro Police that a silver Taurus was headed north on Chester Ave. when it collided with a Toyota Sienna. Both vehicles had young children inside.
Witnesses believed the 72-year-old man, who was driving the Taurus, may have experienced a sudden medical condition before striking the Sienna, pushing it into a nearby parking lot and then careening into the side of a building. After being extricated from the vehicle, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, a 39-year-old woman and a three-year-old child, were taken to Methodist Hospital in good condition.
The occupants of the Sienna - a 43-year-old woman and two children, ages five and three, both in car seats, were taken to Eskenazi Health in good condition.
