A pedestrian was critically injured in Alexandria Saturday.

The accident, involving a 16-year-old male pedestrian, happened on or near the 800 block of Irving Street, according to Alexandria Police Department (APD).

Saturday night was Prom 2016 at Alexandria Area High School and the event began with a grand march at the school. There were cheers from the crowd as couples crossed the performing arts center stage. The teen was significantly injured and flown to a Twin Cities hospital for treatment.

Police have not released details about what happened in the crash.

APD reportedly located the driver of the vehicle involved - a 16-year-old male.
