A rollover crash on Highway 97 between Redmond and Bend killed a 7-year-old girl, injured four others and as a result the driver was arrested Friday, according to Oregon State Police.
On Sept. 26 just after 7 p.m. OSP and emergency responder crews arrived to find a single suburban rollover accident. Redmond Fire and Rescue along with Deschutes County Sheriff deputies at the crash site pronounced a young girl dead on scene.
An air ambulance and ground crews were called out to take the other injured passengers to local area hospitals.
The initial investigation appears to indicate a 1997 Chevrolet Suburban driven by William Wayne Fix, 32, of Redmond, Ore., was driving recklessly leading up to the crash when Fix lost control. The suburban went off the road, striking a rock embankment where it rolled and came to rest on its side.
Three juvenile females, two 14, one 10, were critically or seriously injured. Two were taken to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. One of the girls was taken to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.
The seriously injured girl is being treated at St. Charles Medical Center in Redmond. A fourth girl, 7, was taken to St. Charles Medical Center Redmond also with minor injuries.
Fix had his injuries treated at a hospital, shortly after OSP arrested him and he was booked in to the Deschutes County Jail on charges of First Degree Manslaughter, Second Degree Assault, DUII, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
DCSO and OSP are working together with the Deschutes County District Attorney as part of their investigation in to the crash.
Once family has been notified the names of the dead girl and other passengers injured will be released.
