Two Maryland state troopers were injured after they struck each other’s patrol cars. Both were trying to stop a suspected drunk driver in Upper Marlboro.

The incident happened about midnight Wednesday along MD 4, also known as Pennsylvania Avenue.

The troopers were responding to a call about a driver who appeared to be intoxicated and heading the wrong way in northbound lanes.

The troopers followed each other, and one hit the rear of the other’s car near Green Landing Road, sending it across the median and down an embankment, officials said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

An officer with the Maryland Natural Resources Police was later able to stop the driver, who was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

His name was not immediately released, and officials said the investigation is ongoing.
