Pelham,N.H : Pelham man crashes SUV while impaired, reports vehicle stolen on Wednesday, June 8, 2016
A Pelham man crashed his SUV while drunk Wednesday and then called 911 to report it stolen, according to police.
Brian Gervais, 31, rolled the SUV over near the intersection of Dutton Road and South Shore Drive just before 8 p.m. A witness told police that Gervais crawled out of the vehicle and took off running before officers arrived at the crash.
Gervais then phoned police to report his 2005 Ford Escape stolen. He also informed them that he had chased the suspect into the woods. Gervais claimed that he was punched in the face by the thief, police said.
After a search of the area, officers later found Gervais in his driveway and spoke with him about the incident. They determined his story "did not make sense" and that he was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Police said Gervais' impairment was a contributing factor in the crash.
Gervais was arrested and is charged with driving under the influence and making false reports to law enforcement. He was released on $2,000 bail.
