Middlebury, VT : Young man killed in Brandon car crash on Friday night, August 12, 2016

A young man from Brandon was killed in a single-car crash on Newton Road Friday night, and two passengers in the car were injured.

Police said no one in the 2000 red Honda Civic was wearing a seatbelt as the driver, 22-year-old Thomas Trudeau Savage, was traveling west on Newton Road just before midnight on Aug. 12.

Police said their investigation showed that the car left the roadway and hit an embankment, causing it to roll and crash into a chain link fence around a wastewater substation.

Police said Savage was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The two juvenile passengers, both still inside the car, were taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

At the scene Saturday evening, police tape and orange traffic cones could be seen around the crumpled fence. A seven-foot-long metal post with its cement piling still attached lay on its side in front of the substation. Someone had attached a bouquet of flowers to the part of the fence that was still standing.

Savage was a 2012 graduate of Otter Valley Union High School and Stafford Technical Center’s music program. He was currently employed at New England Woodcraft.

The crash is still under investigation.
