Orlando,FL : Orlando man killed in crash on S.R. 528 on August, Friday 18th 2017

An Orlando man was killed and three people were injured after a chain reaction crash on State Road 528 Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the first accident happened when 31-year-old Charles Grubbs was involved in a rear-end collision with 37-year-old Gregory Velez in the westbound lanes of State Road 528 at mile marker 31, near State Road 520 in Orange County.

Velez’s car, a 2013 BMW, came to rest in the left lane. Grubbs then left his car and was standing outside of the driver’s side window of the BMW talking to Velez, FHP spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said.

While the men were talking, a 2013 Hyundai driven by 25-year-old Andre Petway was unable to avoid the accident and hit the back of Velez’s BMW shortly before 10 p.m. The force of the impact caused Grubbs to be thrown to the ground, troopers said.

A passenger in Velez’s car, 44-year-old Ricardo Arana, was pronounced dead on the scene, Montes said. Velez was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Petway and Grubbs suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
