Pensacola, FL : Weather-related accident on Interstate 10 on Friday, December, 8th 2017

The slick, rainy weather Friday morning was a contributing factor in the death of a road construction worker on Interstate 10.

Harley Wolfe-Davidson Schrank, 24, of Holt, was killed when a semi-truck driven by Bobby Steed, 29, of Orlando, slid into him just before 10:30 a.m.

Steed was trying to avoid a previous accident near mile marker 46 in Okaloosa County, according to a Florida Highway report. He failed to maintain control of his semi-truck and began to slide on the wet pavement, the report said.

Schrank and Timothy Earl Smith, 19, of Pensacola were part of an Anderson Columbia road construction crew that was setting up an arrow board at the scene of the first accident in the north shoulder of the westbound lane of I-10.

Schrank died at the scene. Smith was treated for minor injuries at Sacred Heart Hospital and released.

The crash is under investigation by the FHP.
