Columbus, OH : Davidson grad killed in car accident on Monday, July 24, 2017
A 2017 Hilliard Davidson High School graduate was killed and a rising senior at Darby High School was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash July 24 in Madison County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Alexa Howard, 18, of Columbus was killed in the accident near Prairie Oaks Metro Park. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Sarah Mulford, 17, of Hilliard.
Investigators from the West Jefferson post of the highway patrol are analyzing the fatal crash.
Preliminary findings indicate that Mulford was driving a 2005 Honda Accord eastbound on Lucas Drive at 4:11 p.m. July 24 and failed to yield from a stop sign at Plain City-Georgesville Road, investigators said.
A Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Plain City-Georgesville Road struck the Honda and both vehicles continued off the roadway, according to investigators.
Howard was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mulford sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the Silverado was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
Grief counselors will be available for students at Darby and Davidson high schools from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, said Stacie Raterman, a Hilliard City Schools spokeswoman.
