Town of Westport, WI : 49-year-old Waunakee man died in a motorcycle accident on Meffert Road in the town of Westport on Sunday evening, June 21, 2015

A motorcyclist who lost control while riding in Dane County has died.

According to the Dane County Sheriff's Office, the 49-year-old Waunakee man was riding on Meffert Road in the town of Westport at a high rate of speed around 6 p.m. He lost control around a curve, went into the gravel and off the road. He was thrown from the motorcycle and hit his head.

The biker was not wearing a helmet and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities remind everyone to slow down, drive safely and use all appropriate safety equipment.

The crash is still under investigation.
