Sacramento, CA 18-year-old arrested in fiery fatal crash west of Turlock on Sunday, October, 22nd 2017

A teenager faces charges of vehicular manslaughter in a DUI-related crash Sunday morning that killed a driver Sunday morning several miles west of Turlock.

Hayward resident Alejandro Valdovinos, 18, was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence resulting in injury or death to another, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Just before 7 a.m. Sunday, Valdovinos was eastbound on West Main Street west of South Carpenter Road. A witness told the CHP the car, a 2017 Ford Mustang, passed him at high speed.

The driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze also was in the eastbound lane, stopped at the stop sign at South Carpenter. The Mustang drove into the rear of the Cruze, and the impact caused both cars to catch fire.
