Urbanna, VA : MHS senior seriously injured in car accident on Town Bridge Road near Urbanna on Friday, October 21, 2016

Middlesex High School senior Raiven Hammond of Laneview was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Town Bridge Road near Urbanna on Friday, October 21.

She was airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. On Tuesday evening, Raiven remained in the neurosurgery intensive care unit, said her mother Denita Hammond on Tuesday. “The team of doctors she has is amazing,” said Denita.

Doctors removed a drain that was in Raiven’s head after the bleeding had stopped. She has some swelling of her brain that doctors would like to decrease, said Denita, and her condition is being monitored closely. “God is healing her body and we are very thankful for the community support and family support that we have received,” said Denita.

Raiven suffered no broken bones.

According to a witness at the crash scene, Raiven was traveling toward Saluda on Town Bridge Road and ran off the left side of the road on the curve at the second pond. Her car went down a ravine. She was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Raiven is the daughter of Ricky and Denita Hammond and is a contestant in the 2016 Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen competition.
