MOULTRIE, GA : Semi, pickup truck crash on Hwy. 133 on Monday, 2nd December, 2019
There were no fatalities, but one driver was cited as the result of a crash that left a semi-truck overturned and a pickup truck crushed early Monday just outside Moultrie’s city limits.
Henry Bentley, 63, of Quitman was traveling towards Valdosta on Georgia Highway 133 driving a black Dodge Ram hauling a trailer of cotton when a semi-truck knocked him off the road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The responding Georgia State Trooper, Post Commander John Vanlandingham, said the accident happened around 7 a.m. According to him, the semi’s driver, Joey Kelley, 52, of Moultrie didn’t see the truck or its haul. Kelley was charged with following too closely.
“There was enough light (so) he should’ve seen the truck in front of him,” Vanlandingham said.
The resulting accident left the Dodge Ram crushed on its top (i.e. the roof and parts of the bed) mainly toward the passenger side, and the semi overturned on its right side, both near the right side of Ga. 133 heading south.
The cotton trailer was also busted open emptying its contents on the right side of the road near farmland.
Triangular warning reflectors were found on the cotton trailer’s tail. These should’ve reflected Kelley’s headlights, Vanlandingham said.
