San Bernardino, CA : Two teenage girls killed in head-on crash in San Bernardino County on Monday night, December 7, 2015

Two teenage girls were killed Monday night when a car they were riding in veered into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into another vehicle in San Bernardino County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The deadly crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. in Redlands as an 18-year-old woman sped at more than 60 mph westbound on a long, winding stretch of secluded Sand Canyon Road near Crafton Avenue, the CHP said.

The woman was driving a 1993 white Toyota Corolla when, for unknown reasons, the car veered into opposite lanes and slammed into a 2006 silver Dodge Charger.

A 16-year-old girl from Calimesa and a 17-year-old girl from Yucaipa riding in the Corolla were killed, the CHP said. The 17-year old girl was not wearing a seat belt, said CHP Officer Brian Alvarez. The two drivers and the driver of a third vehicle involved in the collision suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, Alvarez said.
