Martinez, CA : Concord woman, 19, killed in chaotic multicar crash on Highway 4 in Contra Costa County on Saturday, January 16, 2016
A 19-year-old Concord woman died after crashing her car into a guard rail, being struck by her own vehicle, and then being run over by another car while she lay in the freeway suffering from her injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman, whose name is not being released, was driving her blue 2009 Mazda 3 on westbound on Highway 4 around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, when she struck the center median near the Alhambra Avenue exit for "yet to be determined reasons," a CHP news release said.
She then exited her vehicle, and seconds later, it was struck by an oncoming Buick Rivera, hurling the teen's own vehicle onto her, and knocking her onto Highway 4's second lane of traffic, police said. The Buick flipped over, crashed into the median, and came to rest upside-down on the guardrail, police said.
Then, while she was lying in the lane after being struck by her own car, the woman was struck by a 1999 Honda Civic, which then spun out of control, bounced off the guardrail, and ended up back in the second lane, police said.
