Hutchinson, KS : A Reno County sheriff’s deputy was injured after being involved in a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 50 Yoder Road On Thursday, May 19th, 2016

A Reno County sheriff’s deputy was sent to the hospital Thursday evening after being involved in a two-vehicle crash along Yoder Road.

Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Jason Hoffman said the deputy was on the exit ramp from eastbound U.S. 50 onto Yoder Road, preparing to get back onto eastbound U.S. 50, when he struck a vehicle that was heading north on Yoder Road.

The deputy was sent to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. A Kansas Highway Patrol crash log identified the deputy as Christopher Shields, 31, of Hutchinson.

Jacob M. Johnson of Burrton, the driver of the northbound vehicle, was not injured.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, Hoffman said.

The cause of the crash still was under investigation.
