OTTUMWA, IA : 8-year-old killed in Ottumwa after being hit by truck on Tuesday, 2nd July 2024

An 8-year-old child has died after a Dodge truck backed over him while he was riding his bike in Ottumwa on Tuesday afternoon.

The Ottumwa Police Department said it was an accident, and it happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the East Alley of the 200 Block of North Hancock and Dewy Street.

The Ottumwa Community School District identified the child as Jaxxon Cain, who had just finished second grade at Douma Elementary School.

No charges have been filed at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
