North Laurel Man Dies in Weekend Car Crash in Maryland
A North Laurel man is dead after a three-car collision along Route 197 in Laurel Sunday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. near the intersection of Laurel-Bowie Road and Montpelier Drive when a 2005 Mercedes-Benz traveling southbound struck a 2005 Honda Accord.
Police said that the vehicle’s driver Olufemi Olagbaju, 56, of 9200 Fulton Avenue was fatally injured as his vehicle was pushed into the middle of the medium. The striking vehicle went on to hit a 2004 Nissan Maximum pushing it off the roadway before the striking vehicle came to a stop.
Olagbaju was pronounced dead on the scene. The striking vehicle’s driver and the driver of the second vehicle struck were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman.
The name of the driver has not been released. Johnson said speeding was the probable cause of the incident, no charges have been filed against the driver as of yet, he said.
