Portland, OR : Pedestrian struck, killed after walking onto I-5 SB near Wilsonville on Thursday morning, March 19, 2015
A man was struck and killed by a semi truck on Interstate 5 southbound Thursday morning, causing extensive delays for drivers just south of Wilsonville.
Witnesses told Oregon State Police troopers the man walked into traffic near the French Prairie Rest Area.
Investigators learned the man was living with his mother and sister at the rest area south of Wilsonville.
The 24-year-old walked onto I-5 just before 6 a.m. and was struck by a southbound semi-truck hauling wood chips, according to preliminary information from troopers at the scene.
The collision blocked the center and right lanes at Milepost 281, as well as the on-ramp from the French Prairie Rest Area.
"Early investigation indicates (the man) had been talking about committing suicide," State Police said in a press release.
The Oregon Department of Transportation reported delays anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours as drivers made their way through the Charboneau area.
