Longwood, FL : Man on probation fled traffic stop, crashed car into home on Thursday June 19th 2014
A car crashed into a Longwood home Thursday afternoon after a police chase, authorities said.
The driver of gold sedan fled from a Longwood police officer and eventually went through a front yard, hit a car and crashed into a home in Seminole County.
"It sounded like a crash of some sort or an explosion," said homeowner Gunnar Johnson. "Opened the garage door and all I saw was mayhem."
Police said they originally tried to pull Jonathan Pilgrim over because he was allegedly driving recklessly, but Pilgrim wouldn't stop.
He eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into the Seminole County home.
"My Honda Civic was crushed like an accordion," Johnson said. "There was a car I didn't own that was halfway into my garage."
Johnson didn't see Pilgrim, who police said ran from the scene. Officers arrested him a short time later.
The right column of the garage was also damaged. The Longwood Fire Department battalion chief said the home has moderate structural damage. The home will be inspected for damages by county building officials.
Police said Pilgrim was on probation and was wearing a court ordered GPS monitoring device.
Pilgrim is being held with no bond at the Seminole County Jail.
