25-year-old Callahan woman died in car crash on Interstate 95
A 25-year-old Callahan woman died in an early Saturday morning crash on Interstate 95.
The crash happened near 8th Street and shut down northbound traffic for more than three hours on the interstate.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kimberly Michelle Gillespie's car was stopped in the center lane of northbound I-95 just after 2:30 a.m.
A Chevrolet Impala driven by Allen Kristopher Hand Jr., 30,collided with the rear of her 2008 Scion. Hand told FHP he did not see Gillespie's car until it was too late because the Scion's lights were not on.
The collision caused Gillespie to be ejected from the vehicle. Two other vehicles struck Gillespie's body but did not stop, a witness told investigators.
Gillespie was pronounced dead at the scene.
FHP doesn't know why Gillespie was stopped. Gillespie wasn't wearing a seat belt and had the driver's side door open at the time of the crash, according to FHP.
Hand suffered minor injuries.
No charges are pending.
