HIBBING, MN : Semi Crash Injures One on Tuesday, January 3rd 2017
A Hibbing man was injured when the 2012 Kia Sportage he was driving was broadsided by a 1997 International 4000 Series semi truck in the intersection of Highway 169 and East Howard Street in Hibbing. The incident occurred at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday.
John L. Lautizi, 59, of Chisholm, was driving southbound on Highway 169 in the semi when he attempted to stop for a red light, but slid through the intersection and into the Kia, according to a Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) report. James K. Anderson, 64, was driving the Kia westbound on East Howard Street.
Anderson was transported to Fairview Range Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Lautizi was not injured.
All parties were wearing seatbelts. No airbags deployed. No alcohol was detected, according to the report.
The semi was not towed as the damage to it was minor. The Kia was severely damaged and towed.
The road conditions were not recorded.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
