Nassau,NY : Driver hurt after LIE collision with highway patrol Car on may, Saturday 20th 2017

A Middle Island woman was driving under the influence when she smashed into an unoccupied Nassau police car on the Long Island Expressway in Syosset early Sunday morning, Nassau police said.

The officer, who had pulled over to investigate an auto accident on the expressway, was not in the patrol car at the time and was uninjured, police said. The cruiser sustained extensive damage, according to photographs taken at the scene.The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. on the eastbound LIE between exits 42 and 43.

Shanice A. Haynes, 24, of Lake Pointe Drive, who was driving a 2009 Saturn, “passed emergency warning flares set up on the roadway” before striking the police car parked there by the officer, who had been investigating a crash that had resulted in an overturned vehicle, police said.

Haynes and her 23-year-old female passenger, whose name police did not release, were both transported by Nassau police ambulance to a hospital for injuries to their right ankles.
