Fort Pierce, FL : Man dies in crash with tow truck on Florida’s Turnpike on Wednesday night, June 8, 2016
A man has died after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night on northbound Florida's Turnpike, St. Lucie County Fire District Chief Nate Spera said.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. in Fort Pierce, 20 miles north of State Road 70, near mile marker 172, according to the Florida Highway Patrol website.
The man was traveling north on the turnpike when his car ran into the back of a tow truck, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mary Wysocky said.
Wysocky said the truck was slowing down to pull off the roadway to tow another vehicle. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.
The crash blocked all northbound lanes on the turnpike in the area for about 40 minutes. Only one lane had been reopened by about 8:45 p.m., Spera said.
Florida Highway Patrol and Fire Rescue responded to the crash. No more information was available Wednesday night.
