Newburgh, NY : 73-year-old woman struck, killed on upstate New York highway on Monday, Oct 26, 2015

A 73-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car as she crossed Route 32 just north of Mill Street shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, town police said.
Police Chief Michael Clancy said Deotha McNair, 73, of Walden, was struck by a southbound car driven by Imani Huerta, 21, of Wallkill. Clancy said it was dark at the time and Huerta had no time to stop before she struck McNair. She was not hurt and is not facing any charges.
McNair was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It just seems to be a tragic, tragic accident,” Clancy said.
Town police detectives are continuing to investigate how the victim came to be walking along the highway several miles from her home.
Clancy said they received reports that McNair had been at a location in Plattekill about an hour and a half before she was killed. They also received calls from several motorists who had seen her walking south in the northbound lane and had to drive around her, Clancy said.
