NEWBURGH, NY : NYC man caught after upstate chase ends in 5-vehicle crash on Monday, November 14th 2016
A New York man is in an upstate jail after authorities say he led a chase that ended in a five-vehicle crash that left a state trooper and two civilians injured.
State police say 24-year-old Angel Gomez of the Bronx sped away from Trooper Nigel Barnett after being pulled over on Interstate 84 on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge around 10 p.m. Monday.
A brief chase ended when Gomez drove the wrong way Route 9W and hit a car head-on. The trooper’s car and two other vehicles also crashed. Gomez and a woman riding with him were captured on foot.
Charges again him include reckless endangerment and assault. He’s being held in the Orange County Jail. If couldn’t be learned if Gomez has a lawyer.
Barnett and two people in the first car have injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
